The Department of Basic Sciences is a supporting and essential department for the departments of the Higher Valley Institute of Engineering and Technology. Its main importance lies in providing students with aspects of scientific and linguistic knowledge that they acquire from the basic science courses (mathematics, physics, chemistry, foreign languages, mechanics, computer and information technology). It presents the concepts that are later used in different specializations such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, making the student more able to absorb specialized materials to become competent and highly professional in their different specializations. The Department of Basic Sciences is the foundation on which the successful engineer is built, and without it, studying engineering specializations becomes more difficult and less effective.
